University College of Northern Denmark (UCN)

The University College of Northern Denmark works with education, development and innovation within four main fields: healthcare, education, technology and business. We have approximately 7000 students in AP and BA degree programmes, more than 9000 course participants and students undergoing continuing and further education and training. We have about 750 employees. The University College of Northern Denmark is an educational organisation that values its community - we encourage freedom of expression in an atmosphere of open dialogue, enabling critical thoughts, supported by intellectual integrity, reflection and ethical judgment. Collegiality, transparency and accountability are the principles that guide our university governance.

We actively search for the challenges of the future and we meet them with openness, dialogue, innovative thinking and by developing the competences of the faculty and students. We invest in each other and develop together. At UCN we encourage insight, professionalism and future orientation in our tuning of health, education, technological and business education programmes. Close cooperation with private and public firms and organisations, stakeholders and users plus all regional, national and international partners comes naturally to us.

Sport Management

Within the field of business, the University College of Northern Denmark provides educational programs in Sport Management. The Sport Management Program started in 2009, with founder and program director Per Justesen. Today, the program has graduated more than 250 students with a specialisation in Sport Management, Bachelor graduates in Sports Management and Diploma Courses in Golf Management. The Program has more than 100 international students at the moment, which indicates an international focus and credibility – which we are striving to develop further by increasing our numbers of international partners.

The Sport Management department will be your conference organiser of the 20th EASM Conference along with the Danish Institute for Sports Studies/Play The Game.

Co-Organiser: Danish Institute for Sports Studies/Play the Game

The Danish Institute for Sports Studies (Idrættens Analyseinstitut) is an independent research centre set up by the Danish Ministry of Culture. The primary objective of The Danish Institute for Sports Studies is to carry out and disseminate a broad range of social science research projects in the field of sports. Furthermore, the aim of the Institute is to analyse political initiatives regarding the world of sports and stimulate public debate around central questions related to these initiatives. After merging with Play the Game on 1 January, 2011, the institute is now also responsible for the organisation of the international Play the Game conference and for the promotion of democracy, transparency and freedom of expression within the international sports community.

Among the central tasks are:

  • To give insight into the relation between sports, culture and society.
  • To create a general overview of relevant research on a national as well an international level.
  • To take on research and evaluation projects of importance in relation to the development of sport.
  • To assess the implications of political initiatives related to field of sports.
  • To communicate insights and knowledge to the public in a straight forward and relevant manner.
  • To ask critical questions concerning the development of sports policy and enhance public debate in the light of the most recent research results.
  • To organise the international Play the Game conference for media representatives, researchers, sport politicians and sport administrators and thereby address current discussions on sports politics.
  • To strengthen the ethical foundation of sport and promote democracy, transparency and freedom of expression through the Play the Game conferences and other activities under the institute.
