The Conference

'Sport between business and civil society' is the overall theme of the 20th EASM Conference in Aalborg, Denmark on 18-21 September 2012. It is the first time ever that the European Association for Sport Management is holding its annual conference in Denmark. The rapidly growing sport management environment in the country is looking forward to sharing inspiration, knowledge and research with delegates from all over the world. Academics, professionals and sports leaders will meet in one of Denmark’s most attractive and lively cities to share the best and latest in the field of sport management. The conference is divided into a professional programme and a master student seminar, which are expected to attract hundreds of sport management-interested people to Aalborg.

Conference Venues

The main conference venue is the UCN Mylius Erichens Vej, which is located in the eastern part of Aalborg, approximately 3 km from the city centre. The UCN is a modern educational centre with all the facilities necessary to host a successful and inspiring conference for delegates from Europe and beyond.

The Master Student programme is held at the modern Nørresundby Sports Centre, which is located just 10 minutes from the city centre.

There will be shuttle buses between the conference hotels and the venues during the conference.

Themes

The Danish sports sector is extremely dynamic with a tradition of volunteering and high participation in grassroots sports, a booming commercial fitness and golf sector, and an increasing number of professional leagues, clubs and elite athletes. Denmark has a huge provision of public sports facilities, and the country is hosting an increasing number of international sports events and congresses.

Research and education in sport management are undergoing a rapid development. The traditional voluntary sports sector is increasingly challenged by commercial operators and new patterns in sports participation, consumer behaviour and media habits. This development is reflected in the broad range of conference topics. EASM Conference in Aalborg 2012 will be your opportunity to discuss the most important issues and exchange research and knowledge about sport management.
