In the opposite direction, namely northeast of Aalborg, you will find more exciting experiences waiting for you. For instance you could visit the town of Sæby approx. 12 kilometres south of Frederikshavn that is 64 kilometres northeast of Aalborg.
Sæby features a unique market town environment with a nostalgic city centre full of idyllic peonys and beautiful old half-timbered houses. The town has a charming marina and beautiful white beaches that offer visitors to catch a glimpse of the island of Læsø, which you can visit by ferry from Frederikshavn.
Is one of the large cities of North Jutland. Among other things, it has one of Denmark’s longest pedestrian streets. There are several marinas, a large sports arena that is used as a venue for various events, nostalgic old fishermens’ houses, cafés and restaurants.
Every summer, the town hosts exciting events such as e.g. "Days of Tordenskjold – the year 1717” which is a fireworks of continuous adventure. Read about the "Days of Tordenskjold". From Frederikshavn you can also go to Norway and Sweden, for instance on a one-day trip to Gothenburg.
In the southernmost part of town, there are large green spaces with a forest where a large herd of deer roams, a park, a botanical garden and a crevice garden. In the midst of this green oasis lies the old manor house of Bangsbo that nowadays is home to a large museum. Every year the park hosts a flower festival.
In the northern part of the town is the Palm Beach, an incredibly popular meeting place in the summer for people of all ages. The palm beach is 400 metres long and 30-50 metres wide and has the clearest water and completely white sands. Here you will find more than 90 palm trees, seaweed parasols, beach beds, an outdoor kitchen / beach bar, beach volley courts on land and in the water and an ice cream shop that all form a unique summer environment which is completely free of charge. At the very top of Denmark you will find famous Skagen that has a very special environment with the characteristic "Skagen-yellow" houses. Skagen is the northernmost town of Denmark and is a blend of old fishiermens’ houses and an artists' environment. In the summertime it is buzzing with tourists who experience a mix of rough nature with dune plantations and heaths; long, wide beaches; countless shops, restaurants and cafés as well as galleries, museums and handicraft.
You cannot visit Skagen without walking on “Grenen” the stretch of beach that makes up the last couple of hundred metres of Denmark. On Grenen the two seas of Kattegat and Skagerrak meet as they roll in from each side.
The town is also famous for its sand-buried church, the lighthouses and a lively party nightlife all summer long. Close to Skagen you will find Gl. Skagen (“Old Skagen”), which is also worth paying a visit.

Don’t miss the town of Aalbæk, Børglum Monastery and the charming coastal town of Hals. You could also visit Fårup Sommerland amusement park which lies just outside of Blokhus, or visit the city of Brønderslev or the EagleWorld close to Tversted, Voergaard castle or Hjallerup market which is among the largest traditional market fairs for horses in Northern Europe. Don't forget to visit the city of Hirtshals and the North Sea Oceanarium or participate in the many festivals.
