There is a tradition for "doing a good deal" in Hjoerring, an old market town in which city and country have met for more than 750 years. The city has always been a thriving centre for commercial trade. Hjoerring is Vendsyssel's biggest commercial centre with attractive shopping streets, side streets and pedestrian precincts, a wide range of special offers in more than 160 speciality shops, 14 supermarkets and the low-price department store A-Z.
Hjoerring offers art and culture experiences at all times of the year – and plenty of experiences for more than just a single holiday.
It is a historic city and a walk through the area around Nørregade, the oldest part of Hjoerring with 3 medieval churches is an experience. Continue to Merchant Riis’ house from 1790, which has housed a school and a hospital, and is now a restaurant. Visit ‘Håndværkernes Hus’ (the Craftsmen’s House) and walk across Axeltorv square, where markets have been held since the Middle Ages. Continue along Museumsgade, where the Historical Museum of Vendsyssel is situated.
Furthermore, Hjoerring has several interesting museums, parks, churches etc. One of these; Svanelunden (the Swan’s Grove) is a minor park south of the railway station, planted in 1878. In 1884 Hjoerring Skating Association had the swan lake dug to make a skating rink.
A pavilion with a terrace and a music tribune with weekly concerts made it a popular recreational area, both are still in use.
