Department of Nursing

Introduction

Our nursing programme is based on the hands – heart – mind approach where nursing activities rely on professional knowledge, cooperation, presence and the interest in other people, coupled with practical competence and skills. Throughout the programme students will experience activities designed to increase networking skills, teamwork, personal and professional development. This will train the students to create a meaningful collaboration with other health professionals in order to benefit the citizens’ health .The focus is on handling all age groups – in hospitals, in institutions, and in homes.

Exchange students

Student exchange in Denmark is driven by your own ideas, initiative and commitment supplemented with counseling. We receive exchange students flexibly at different periods of the year. We recommend that you have acquired the knowledge and professional identity needed in your home country , as you will use this as a basis for studying in Denmark.

Organisation of the programme

The UCN nursing programme is a 7-semester 3 ½ year bachelor programme with alternating theoretical and clinical modules. The theoretical part of the programme takes place at University College of Northern Denmark either in the city of Aalborg or Hjørring. The clinical part of the programme is organized at hospitals, in the psychiatric area, in home care and in health care.

The programme consists of 14 modules each with its individual theme and it includes a cross-disciplinary module where students from different health programmes are taught together and write a project in common. Furthermore, Aalborg Hospital has a multidisciplinary clinical study unit where the students collaborate interdisciplinary in relation to the patient’s problems.
