As an occupational therapist you will work with children, young people, adults and elderly people whom from different reasons have difficulties in managing ordinary everyday activities. You will use your knowledge and creativity to come up with solutions for each individual patient. The focus in occupational therapy is that occupation is a life necessity and a developing factor to all people. As an occupational therapist you can choose an area of the profession that suits your interests. Occupational therapists are often employed in both psychiatric and somatic hospitals and works with health promotion and disease prevention in community as well as with working environment.
Becoming an exchange student in Denmark you will be a student at UCN’s Department of Occupational Therapy in Aalborg for the theoretical part of the programme. Should you wish to be an exchange student during the clinical phase you will be stationed at hospitals, psychiatric wards, in the local authority occupational therapy as well as in an optional area. Clinical teaching comprises approximately 1/5 of the education and provides you with the opportunity to test and challenge your theoretical knowledge in real life situations.
Common to both theoretical and clinical exchange periods are that you will be assisted by UCN’s international tutor corps who will assist you on arrival in Denmark and with subsequent participation in social events or professional meetings.
The duration of the education is 3½ years consisting of 14 modules. Each module has a separate theme and you will undergo two modules each semester. The education varies between theoretical teaching and clinical teaching in internships.
