Erasmus students at UCN

- Alina Stoian and Monica Trasca - Architectural Technology and Construction Management

One of the best experiences was receiving the Erasmus scholarship and thereby being able to go to UCN - University College of Northern Denmark.

A warm welcome

We were warmly welcome by our teachers, as well as by our colleagues. Although the differences between the system of teaching in Romania and the one found here are very big, due to the patience, help and support that we have received from our study mates, as well as from our teachers, the transition was not that hard, but, actually very pleasant.

A help to face the real world

From the very beginning, that we were supposed to be part of a team and that the project should be the result of team work, scared us the most, being used to work individually. However, we have managed it so far, by doing our best and by getting the best out of our teams.

Now, when we are looking back to all our experience, we realize that it has been period in our life, from which we have derived great benefits. This experience will certainly help us face the “real world” and deal with situations, tasks and problems, in a more efficient way.

Learned about ourselves

As a result of the fact that we succeeded in getting used to a different culture, a different working style, that we overcame the various tasks that we had to solve, we are now more experienced, more aware of our abilities and capacities, we can evaluate ourselves better. Moreover, we have had the chance to learn more things about ourselves, about the others, we have, therefore, broadened our minds

This experience helped us rediscover ourselves, build future plans, make new friends. What is more, this scholarship at UCN - University College of Northern Denmark, offered us the chance to understand what is right for us, what we are good at, what we should improve or change in our behaviour, way of acting and working style. We have encountered difficulties concerning the Danish language, as we don’t possess such knowledge and we had to ask sometimes our team to help us translate some schemes or plans.

The different systems

We have had the opportunity to discover differences between the educational system in Denmark and the one in Romanian. One example could be the fact that, in Denmark, the educational system is very well organized, in terms of equipments, technical devices.

All in all, this experience brought new things, different perspectives and view, various situations to which we had to get used to.

Even though, at times it was difficult to accept all these new ideas and this new culture, we have discovered that the different working style or the new lifestyle we found here developed ourselves, by making us more understanding and more openminded. In our opinion, it is an experience worth living and, therefore, we are grateful that we were offered the chance to live it.

Thank you for all your help and support and for making our staying here easier and more pleasant.
