Martin Dall is on the first year of studies on the Architectural Technology and Construction Management programme in an international class at UCN - University College of Northern Denmark. Martin is actually dreaming about becoming an architect and he considers the Architectural Technology and Construction Management programme a step on the way to fulfilling that dream.
“I am very happy with the programme so far because it gives me a very good understanding of the constructions of buildings. And in a way, I also think it is important that an architect knows more than just drawing. He should also understand the technical matters behind it and be able to construct the buildings.
But I am probably just using architectural construction as a jumping-off point to becoming an architect because I wanted to attend a school of architecture but I couldn’t get accepted. But I am very happy with this programme, and as a matter of fact it has more job opportunities than the architecture programme does, and I think that’s good to know”.
At present, Martin has no doubts that he chose the right study programme. He finds the subjects interesting, and being in an international class means that the social life on the programme gets spiced up:
“All of the first semester was actually one long project where we learned a lot of things and got a quick introduction to the profession. We’ve had classes such as Drawing Technique, Technical Installations, Planning & Management and English to learn the terminology. It has all been very interesting and it seems like it will continue to be interesting and that’s great. It is also great to study with people of other nationalities and learn something about their cultures. It also develops an understanding of their countries, which is an advantage for when I will be working abroad.”
It is Martin’s dream to work in an architecture company abroad or perhaps even starting his own business and focus on the international market. He is looking forward to what the next semesters at UCN - University College of Northern Denmark will bring and what he will learn about construction.
