Digital construction key to career Implementing BIM alongside construction project planning. Read Morten’s story |
Since Kevin Hogan was a young boy he has dreamt of working with sky scrapers but the prospects of a job in the clouds were not bright in Denmark. However, his dreams suddenly became airborne when he was offered a job with one of Australia’s largest contractors Multiplex Construction.
Kevin Hogan became the first student from UCN - University College of Northern Denmark who took his internship in Australia, and his stay down under has since resulted in a regular job.
After graduating from Architectural Technology and Construction Management at UCN - University College of Northern Denmark in Aalborg, Kevin Hogan returned to Melbourne where he had made such a good impression that his former internship host was waiting for him with an offer of a place on their graduate programme with a good salary, large bonuses, and all costs covered.
Even though Kevin Hogan is living his dream of building houses that are hundreds of metres tall it is not a bed of roses. A working day can easily last 10 to 12 hours and when Kevin Hogan makes it to the position of Site Manager he can expect to work up to 70 hours a week.
“Those are the conditions when you want to build a career on in the front row of the Australian construction industry. There is fierce competition for the best employees and long working hours is the price you have to pay when you want to work with the heavyweights in creating the wonder buildings of the future”, says Kevin Hogan before rushing to a meeting with a sub-contractor.
