Digital construction was the key to his career

- Morten Boesen

During his internship, he introduced his employer to a new tool used by UCN - University College of Northern Denmark called Revit. Revit is a 3-D model drawing program that, apart from being his great interest, also led him straight to the job of his dreams in the architecture company Poulsen og Partnere A/S where he is now working.

Morten Boesen did not choose this business purely by coincidence. Before he decided to study architectural technology he was working as a carpenter but he was dreaming about further challenges and taking part in project planning and design:

“I had had my hands on the projects and was starting to long for more challenges. That is why I decided to study architectural technology. Over the course of my studies I have been shifting between designing and executing. But with my great interest in Digital Construction, the designing process won. I am very happy with that result today.”

Assignments and influence

There are many assignments and tasks for an architectural technologist and every day holds new challenges. At the moment, Morten’s primary assignments are designing construction projects, but there are other interesting things that are taking up his time too:

“Alongside designing construction projects I am also taking part in implementing ‘BIM’, Building Information Modeling in the drawing office. It is a huge task but it is so exciting because it is one of the things that I spent a lot of time on during my studies. I get a kick out of helping fix this drawing office’s future standards and working methods for designing in Digital Construction.”

Challenges, responsibility and development

To Morten, the important thing in a job is that it has a wealth of challenges and a good work environment. He has found both in his present job and he is very pleased with it.

“I was allowed to jump in right away and got responsibilities and my own assignments. Helping to introduce Digital Construction in the drawing office is probably the largest and best challenge to me personally, and it’s thrilling to see that a great effort is made and that you can make a difference and help introduce my employer to the world of digital 3-D modelling.

The way to the dream job

After a successful internship with Poulsen og Partnere the door was open to a job where Morten soon settled in. After the internship the company agreed to collaborate with him on his final exam project and that led Morten to the place where he is today, in the job of his dreams. That is why he is happy that he decided to continue his studies on a programme that he believes has given him many useful tools to use in his day to day work life.

What the future brings, no-one knows but the way things are looking now, Morten has found the job of his dreams and he is excited about what his exciting challenges and tasks will be in the future.
