Steffen Blach Andersen studied the Computer Science programme at UCN - University College of Northern Denmark. Today he works as a Navision consultant for JCD A/S which supplies IT infrastructure solutions to companies of nearly any size and line of business.

When Steffen looks back on his time at school, he thinks that he has taken many good things into his working life.

”I chose that programme because it sounded interesting and because it sounded like it might be a good foundation for what I wanted to work with. I have especially gained a lot from learning about programming and data structures and it also gave me a good understanding of business related concepts. This means that the computer science programme was a good base for the further development necessary for me to handle the tasks that I manage now.”

A job with exciting challenges

Steffen likes his job, and he especially likes to work with adaptation of Navision because it suits his systematic way of thinking. Encoding the right formulas and making everything suit the individual solution produces joy and smiles on Steffen’s face. Steffen also appreciates the responsibility that comes with his work and he is happy with his assignments.

”To me the most important thing is that the things I develop also work 100 %. I have a lot of responsibility because even small mistakes can have serious consequences e.g. calculation of sale prices, discounts and adding different numbers used in decision making and as visual aids. The best part of my job is definitely the assignments that I work on. In general my assignments are varied but of course some tasks are recurrent. It is nice to see, however, that the things I develop are actually used in practice.”

The future lies ahead

It was a coincidence that Steffen was offered a job interview at JCD A/S through one of his friends. But today he is very happy that he was because he likes his job very much and currently he would describe it as the job of his dreams;

”I am very happy about being where I am and I don’t see myself anywhere else in five years. In the long run, I expect to take more courses and get certificates in Navision and get better at doing my job. That way I may also qualify for new tasks and assignments. That would be very interesting.”

So, Steffen is very happy with sitting in his consultant’s chair at JCD A/S and time will tell what the future holds in store.
