A dream comes true

I had spent some time in Denmark before and I fell in love with the Danish culture and design. So I decided to make my dream come true and become a graphic designer in Denmark.

Creative lecturers

- Sabine Ziemele

Denmark is known as a design country -Scandinavian design country.

I have been certain that I want to be an artist from my early childhood. In my teenage years I understood that I want to be a graphic designer, and this is what I want to do in my life.

I am in my last year in the academia LPA in my home country - Latvia. This summer I am going to get my bachelor degree as a graphic designer. During the study years I have been working part time as a graphic designer and project manager. That job helped me to discover that my view on things is not as wide as I would wish. That is why I took an advantage to improve my skills and came to UCN - University College of Northern Denmark as an Erasmus exchange student.

Different way of teaching

Actually, I have learned a lot in this one semester. The way of teaching is very different from one I used to have in Latvia. Therefore I feel so good to be here and to get different knowledge. The way how the lecturers are preparing for every lesson is amazing- they are so helpful, creative and open-minded.

They understand that it is not their only task to sit in front, and read something, what is written long time ago (probably by some one else). They make you think and discover more and more. It is a real challenge. Probably that is why every lesson is so interesting and active - filled up with the real life examples and great ideas.

A lot of group work

The group work and common projects was something new for me, and I found it very attractive. In this way everything happens easier. It gives great opportunity to understand, that there might be more than only one good idea, teaches how to find the right arguments for discussions and solve all possible problems.

This time for me was very fruitful and I feel that I have grown a lot. I have got what I was coming for. I have learned even from small everyday things, from the differences, from the beauty all around. I am learning the Danish attitude towards the way of living and make my self wiser. This is a very useful experience.

I am sure that I have spent these 4 months in the right place and the right time. And I love this thought!
