Three fixed disciplines

- On the Design, Technology & Business (Graphics) programme

Three fixed study programmes

On the Design, Technology & Business (Graphics) programme you will choose between three disciplines:

  • Design
  • Production
  • Marketing

Each discipline has its own focus and students must become qualified to understand, use and evaluate the areas of the chosen discipline in a wide business related setting. Furthermore, you must be able to use theories and methodologies within the discipline.

Design

The Design discipline covers subjects such as: generating ideas, rhetoric, art history, sketching and drawing, portfolio, value analysis, technology, negotiation techniques, philosophy of values, intercultural communication, copywriting and tools.

In the Design discipline, you will work theoretically and practically on the first phase of the design process. We focus on creativity and generating ideas while making the theoretical and practical aspects come together. You will work with design holistically and learn and adopt a thorough, structured approach to performing tasks.

Production

The Production discipline covers subjects such as: technology, proof reading, ergonomics, portfolio, knowledge of materials, sketching and drawing, value analysis, project management, copywriting and tools.

Where design is the first step in a design process, production is the next one. You will work with production theory and production in practice. We focus on the technical working procedures and on exploring technological possibilities. You will learn to work in depth with graphic programs and thus achieve confidence and structure in your working method.

Marketing

The Marketing discipline covers subjects such as: concept design, technology, typography, copywriting, project management, market understanding, marketing strategy, communication strategy and web design.

Marketing covers all the phases of the design process. You will learn about design and branding, user centered design, experience design, experience economy, market analysis, plan and structure, knowledge of materials, branding and communication of values. You will be working on competition analysis and marketing in general. You will perform theoretical as well as practical work and this will give you experience in selling single products while taking all of the phases of the design process into consideration. Last but not least you will create a purposeful portfolio.

Choosing a discipline

The chosen discipline will qualify you to work within a specific phase of the design process and you will gain a solid theoretical background and a structured working approach. The chosen discipline may help you target a specific job function in the graphic industry. That is why it will pay off to consider your interests and abilities before you choose your discipline.
