Specialists with a sound professional foundation

With a Bachelor of Social Education you will get an all-round pedagogical education, and at the same time you will specialize in one particular target group and an aesthetic subject of your interest. For example you can specialize in working with infants or youth, working in a residential institution or in community work, and you can choose from a number of aesthetic subjects such as arts and crafts, music or drama to mention a few.

With two unique campuses and study programmes we give you the opportunity to choose the campus and programme that suits your personality and interests.

We have structured the two programmes into modules of similar lengths, so that each of our campuses offers modules in a specific field at the same time. This means that you have the option of transferring from one campus to another and you can choose to do so for a short period or for a longer period, depending on your study goals. You have many options - it is up to you to choose.

The basic subjects and subject modules of the programme are:

  • Educational Theory: 43 ECTS credits.
  • Danish, Culture and Communication: 28 ECTS credits.
  • The Individual and Society: 18 ECTS credits.
  • One of the following main subjects to be chosen by the student: 30 ECTS credits: a) Health, Body and Movement, b) Expression, Music and Drama, and c) Handicrafts, Nature and Technology.
  • Practical Training: 74 ECTS credits.
  • Specialisation in one of the following areas: 5 ECTS credits in addition to modules from the subject Educational Theory, the main subject and Practical Training: a) Children and young people, b) Persons with handicaps, and c) Persons with social problems.
  • The study programme includes a Bachelor project: 12 ECTS credits.

Through the three compulsory subjects the student will achieve competence in understanding and evaluating the working conditions of a social educator. The subjects help enable the student to analyse and evaluate opportunities and limitations in pedagogical work and to implement, communicate and substantiate its goals.

Through the optional main subject the student will achieve competence in implementing educational activities that develop, inspire and stimulate the users’ lives and improve their welfare. The social educator shall master a main subject and thereby be able to motivate and engage the users and inspire interest and creativity through innovative use of the means and devices available.

The Specialisation equals 35 ECTS credits, compiled as follows: 5 ECTS credits granted for the chosen speciality, 10 ECTS credits from the subject Educational Theory, 5 ECTS credits from the main subject, and 15 ECTS credits from Practical Training.

Through the Specialisation, the student will obtain in-depth insight into specific aspects of the profession; the acquired knowledge and methods must also be applicable in other areas of the profession.

The study programme includes an interprofessional module: 8 ECTS credits, comprised of elements from the basic subjects and modules.
