A job with a view of the world

- Torben Bang Kristensen, Export Salesman at Logimatic

Torben Bang Kristensen

Torben Bang Kristensen is 36 years old and graduated as a Marketing Manager from UCN - University College of Northern Denmark. Today he works as an export salesman in the IT company Logimatic which specializes in IT systems for shipyards.

Logimatic has connections to 70 shipyards worldwide and Torben is responsible for dealing with some of them. To be precise he is in charge of marketing in the Black Sea area with clients in Romania, Turkey, Bulgaria, Russia as well as Brazil and Vietnam.

Torben’s job consists in exporting IT systems to these countries but an important part of it is also calling on clients and presenting the products, listening to client needs and wishes and helping clients find out how the IT systems could work for them.

This kind of job means that Torben travels a lot. He is away from home approximately 50 days out of 220 working days a year which is something Torben greatly appreciates. “It is exciting to travel and have so many experiences and it is interesting and a positive challenge to be a communicator in so many different countries.”

Challenges across borders

To Torben the most important thing is plenty of challenges and there are a lot of those in the job he has now:

“It’s all about being able to acquaint yourself with a complicated system and communicating it in an easily understandable manner to different clients across borders, language barriers etc. Furthermore, it’s important that you don’t let challenges and clients that say “no” get to you. It’s all about not giving op after a single no. All of this can be hard at times but that is what makes it challenging and really interesting.”

Education directed toward interests and a job of his dreams

Torben is very happy with his choice of education. He thinks that the programme has given him a solid knowledge base and that the contents of the programme was a motivation factor that drove him towards the trade of his dreams:

“The Marketing Management programme at UCN - University College of Northern Denmark was inspiring and gave me many qualifications that I have made use of later on. The programme provided me with significant insight into sales and marketing in an international perspective.

Furthermore, I gained competencies within managerial economics, company organization and logistics. Having an insight into the different functions of a company from product development and purchases to sales and distribution is necessary. This is the insight that the programme provided me with which meant that it was a programme directly aimed at my interests.”

Not only did the programme provide him with a solid knowledge base, it also led him to the job of his dreams, namely the position he fills today.

“I am incredibly happy with the job I have now. I live close to my place of work, I plan my travel days myself and the job has the necessary challenges to make every day life exciting, so yes, it is the job of my dreams.”
