Wide-ranging job “My choice of education has helped me go in the direction I wanted to. I am very happy with my job”. Read Bolette’s story |
To be or not to be - online. That’s the question. Most companies that have a public message prefer the last option, namely being online. If a company is offline it will miss out on a large market and many opportunities. It will miss the virtual world where the possibilities are endless and a single click can offer even more possibilities.
Kim Nielsen works as a web designer and makes sure that the company he works for is visible and user friendly on the internet. Apart from his responsibility for ensuring that the design always suits the initiatives developed for the website, he has many other varied tasks every day working for the holiday home rental agency, Sol & Strand feriehusudlejning A/S.
With an AP Degree in Multimedia Design & Communication, you can expect many different tasks and assignments, and in his present job, Kim has found exactly what means the most to him.
“The most important thing to me in my job, and in my job as a web designer, is that each day is different and that's what they are where I work now. There are many different kinds of assignments and projects, some of short duration and some are of longer duration and of course there is daily maintenance of the website with updates and the like.”
He has always found developing and designing websites exciting, and that's why the online business was a natural choice. He chose UCN - University College of Northern Denmark because they could offer short programmes within web and IT.
“I have always known that I wanted to work in this line of business, but I didn’t want to spend many years educating myself so the multimedia design programme was a completely natural choice for me. This way I could fulfil all my dreams and get my hands on some practical work in a short time."
Maintaining and updating websites requires a good sense of perspective with the many different tasks that change from day to day, and this is exactly what Kim appreciates in a job. He likes everyday life on his job and he believes that he has found the job of his dreams.
Kim is happy with his choice of study programme and he thinks that is has given him solid, fundamental knowledge and experience.
“The most important thing my education gave me was insight and experience in functioning and acting with others as a team. Moreover, I have gained more in-depth knowledge and insight into websites, constructing them and their three interconnected parts: the underlying code, the communicative part and not least the design. These are all elements that make a website cohesive and well-functioning if the right criteria and means are available and used.”
