Straight to a steady job “I am in charge of the graphic part of the user interface and make sure that clients can move around the screen". Read Rasmus’ story |
She knows all about constructing a web site in the special web site design system, a so-called CMS system, which Tangora Software A/S makes. And she knows who to ask if she cannot answer a question on her own.
That's because she works as a supporter at Tangora Software and is in charge of contacts to a wide range of advertising and web bureaus and companies that use the software from Tangora. Her name is Pia Kristensen, she is 28 and has an AP Degree in Multimedia Design & Communication from UCN - University College of Northern Denmark.
- “Tangora Software doesn't construct web sites but delivers the necessary software to users who develop web sites for their clients.' We, the supporters, form the link between our developers and the people who use the CMS system. Many of the questions we are asked are ones that we can answer immediately because we know all aspects and functions of the system really well. But we also get many inquiries that require us to talk to the developers. In those cases, we're often able to understand what the users want and then work it out with the developers. That way, we become a kind of intermediaries between developers and users”, Pia explains.
Working as a supporter was not what Pia had in mind when she started on the Multimedia Design & Communication programme. With a background as an arts teacher for school children, her ideas of future work were more along the lines of graphic work online and in print.
She tried that on a project for Art2Business during her education but she never came further down that road. She likes her job nonetheless, and the fact that graduates can cover such different fields of work says something about the width of the Multimedia Design & Communication programme.
-”The versatility of the programme is at the same time its strength and its weakness. “I have worked with four core areas during my education. How a company works, marketing, the technical side of multimedia, and graphics & design. On the one hand, I know a lot about all the subjects and my knowledge of companies is a great benefit to me in my job. On the other hand, I don’t feel that I have gone in-depth with any of the subjects. There is so much more I'd like to know.
- Conversely, the versatility of the programme provides good opportunities for finding work afterwards. Especially if you are creative when finding out where you'll fit in with the qualifications you've acquired. Because you can pursue many different paths depending on your profession and interests”, says Pia.
