Natural and Cultural Heritage Management

Are you passionate about natural and cultural experiences, the experience economy and communication? Then the Bachelor of Natural and Cultural Heritage Management programme at Hjørring might be just what you are looking for! The following topics are among those we cover: interaction between humans and nature, cultural forms of expression and the encounter between various cultures. During the study programme, you will be collaborating with the businesses and organisations in the experience industry, politicians and public administration, leisure organisations as well as the local community.

The experience economy

Experiences have taken on great significance for the people of today. Experiences of culture and nature play a central role. These are created and communicated through businesses involved in the rapidly growing experience economy. This interaction of culture, nature and the business community provides excellent scope for sustainable growth and employment.

About Natural and Cultural Heritage Management

As an undergraduate studying natural and cultural heritage management, you will acquire the following skills working closely with practical field studies:

  • You will qualify to work with mediation tasks in experience-economy businesses, primarily in the field of natural and cultural heritage management. Once qualified, you will be able to work in public and private sector enterprises and other organisations involved with natural and cultural heritage management, including tourism. In addition, many will go on to work with projects and perhaps as an instigator.

  • You will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge and skills that will equip you to organise and market mediation programmes and concepts – both within your own culture and with an international perspective.

  • You will acquire skills for developing and implementing new initiatives within the experience economy, especially natural and cultural heritage management.

  • You will qualify for admission to further education programmes, including supplementary subjects or postgraduate qualifications at the university’s specialised study programmes within the experience economy, tourism and other related study programmes.

Focus on practice and mediation

During your natural and cultural heritage management studies, you will have to collaborate across the board with politicians, administrators, the businesses and organisations in the experience economy, leisure organisations as well as the local community.

Mediation is paramount to the programme, both in the sense of communicating experiences to various target groups and in the sense of developing new areas and concepts within the experience economy.

Your creativity will be challenged in many ways during your studies, both during the mediation workshops (photography, video, web design, public speaking, etc.) and during extensive work with hands-on projects, a central part of your studies.

The study programme qualifies you to undertake mediation tasks as well as for planning and developing programmes and innovative forms of mediation.

Arranging your Natural and Cultural Heritage Management studies

The programme is arranged so that relevant courses and programmes, including Diploma programmes, can either be incorporated for admission to, and gain merits in relation to, subject areas/modules of the Bachelor of Natural and Cultural Heritage Management programme.

The Bachelor of Natural and Cultural Heritage Management programme is a full-time programme, but it can be arranged so that, as far as possible, tuition and workshops are grouped together on three days of the week – to cater for students who have a long way to travel, and students who also have part-time jobs.

Part of the programme can also be taken as a flexible (IT-based) study programme.
