In the curriculum for Bachelor of Natural and Cultural Heritage Management the following is laid down concerning the placement period:
During the fourth term, there is a placement period in a public enterprise or private company or organisation. This placement period lasts 20 weeks and is carried out in weeks 1–20. The period concludes immediately afterwards with an internal oral exam based on a project report (placement period report). At the oral examination the assessment is either Approved or Not Approved. For more information about the placement period, see section 6.5.
The aim of the placement period is to strengthen cohesion between the theoretical and methodological aspects of the programme and the field of practice, thereby ensuring a basis within the profession and a proximity to practice. The placement period is organised so as to progress from what is observed to what is reflected on and to independent exercising in connection with the training of basic skills within experience occupations that emphasise natural and cultural heritage management.
The placement period is carried out in the fourth term of the programme and its extent is 30 ECTS points, which corresponds to 20 weeks.
The college of education approves the placement locations. Placement can be either at home or abroad. The placement location must draw up a description of the planned period in advance of each placement. This description must be approved by the college.
Based on this description, the student formulates the overall goals for the placement period in cooperation with the placement location and the college of education.
In connection with the approval, the placement location, in cooperation with the college of education, must sign a study agreement that is to be approved by the college. This agreement must include the following:
General description of the placement period
Determination of overall aims for the placement period in cooperation with the college of education and the student
Justification of the relevance of the placement period to the subjects/subject areas of the study programme
Number of study days for supervision by the college’s placement period supervisor (possibly including a visit by the supervisor to the placement location) and for work related to individual study/ placement period report.
The student is assigned a placement period supervisor from the college of education.
There is compulsory attendance during the placement period.
The placement location draws up a reference concerning the placement period. In connection with carrying out the placement period the student draws up a report 10–15 pages in length. The project report forms the basis of an internal oral examination that is assessed by the supervisor connected to the college of education as Approved or Not Approved. This assessment includes the reference provided by the placement location, the project report and the oral examination.
The examination lasts 30 minutes, excluding the discussion of the student’s performance.
