Student story by Edina Lázár

Edina Lázár, UCN I study Service, Hos-pitality & Tourism Management and come from Hungary, although I am Ro-mania. Here at UCN I think that the world has opened up to me, by having the chance to travel, to see and experience things from a different culture. The international environment makes me feel secure and calm, be-cause this is also new for the other students.

About the programme

-  Service, Hospitality & Tourism Management

The programme comprises a compulsory part and an elective part. The elective part consists of a specialisation and an examination project. The compulsory part makes up 90 ECTS points and the elective part makes up 30 ECTS points.

Learning to learn

On the first semester you will focus on learning to learn and on the following semesters students are expected to show a higher degree of independence while lecturers will take on a supervisory role.

Internship

On the third semester, you will be going on an internship within your chosen area of speciali-sation. The internship will give you a great opportunity to build networks with the business com-munity while trying out your theoretical competencies in practice.

The internship may take place in one or more businesses in Denmark or abroad. On the fourth semester, you will complete your Service, Hospitality & Tourism studies by preparing your final project with a problem statement based on your internship as its starting point.

The internship will begin early August the year after you started your studies and will end late October. During this period of time, you must complete an internship of 10 to 13 weeks' duration.

Please note: We encourage you to enter into a collaborative relationship with your internship com-pany as early as July (this will be outside your official internship period). In this way, you can ex-pand the time in which you collaborate with the business, and this will give you an even better op-portunity to show them, and us, what you can do.

Teaching methods

The Service, Hospitality & Tourism Management programme is a combination of lessons and inter-disciplinary projects.

Subjects support and complement each other and are based on applied practices. Subjects are taught in whole classes, whereas project work is carried out individually or in groups.

Guest lectures

To reach our goal of consistent contact with the business community, we gladly invite relevant guest lecturers. Lectures may take place within and without timetabled lessons and on or off school premises.

Guest lectures play a central part in academic inspiration, and we strongly advise you to attend them.

Is there an interesting person from the business community in your network who could come by to inspire you and your fellow students? Students are very welcome to make suggestions and help arrange guest lectures.
