Internship

- Service, Hospitality & Tourism Management 10 - 13-week internship

On the third semester, you will be going on an internship within your chosen area of specialisa-tion. The internship will give you a great opportunity to build networks with the business commu-nity while trying out your theoretical competencies in practice.

The internship may take place in one or more businesses in Denmark or abroad. On the fourth semester, you will complete your Service, Hospitality & Tourism Management studies by preparing your final project with a problem statement based on your internship as its starting point.

The internship will begin early August the year after you started your studies and will end late October. During this period of time, you must complete an internship of 10 to 13 weeks' duration.

Please note: We encourage you to enter into a collaborative relationship with your internship company as early as July (this will be outside your official internship period). In this way, you can expand the time in which you collaborate with the business, and this will give you an even better opportunity to show them, and us, what you can do.

The purpose of the internship is:

  • To give students applied competencies within their area of specialisation.
  • To ensure integration between theory and practice.
  • To contribute to the student's academic and personal development.
  • To ensure consistency in the programme in that the student's final exam project is to be based on the company where the internship has taken place.

The internship may take place abroad or in Denmark. If you want to go abroad, you can apply for scholarships with guidance from UCN - University College of Northern Denmark. For more details see "Internship and Study Abroad".

Possible internship assignments

Depending on your choice of specialisation, you will be able to handle several tasks more or less independently. Here are a few examples:

Internship and written assignments

In connection with the internship, students must prepare a small project just as the final exam project will also be related to the internship. The final exam project must document the student's ability to work on a complex applied issue on a methodological basis.

The subject of the assignment could be e.g. a strategic analysis of a company's situation, an assessment and planning of a new service concept or the preparation of a marketing plan.
