3rd semester in Hatfield, England

- Tine Kørner Rasmussen

Hi, my name is Tine. I took the 3rd semester of Hospitality Management at University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, England. My modules were: Accounting for Management Control, Marketing Planning and Socio-Cultural Impacts on Tourism.

A warm welcome

I went to England just a couple of days after I finished my internship at a hotel in Denmark. My semester in England started with two weeks of introduction and registration, not to mention countless events and welcome receptions.

Self-discipline!

I quickly discovered a different school system compared to Denmark.

Here I only had two hours per module/week and I only took three modules, which meant I only had six hours in class every week; but we were expected to study 150 hours per module on a semester, so this is how I was introduced to the word “self-discipline”.

The whole experience was very exciting and I think it has been a huge challenge.

A thing I got aware of from group work and classes is the cultural differences between Danish and English students.

A recommenable place

University of Hertfordshire got so much to offer, and it is definitely a place I will recommend.

I lived on campus, which gave me the whole experience of living, studying and having friends very close. The school is located in Hatfield, which is a small town; from here there are direct trains connections to London in only 25 min. That gives the opportunity to go sightseeing in London.

In the end I just want to recommend and encourage other colleagues to study abroad. It is hard work, but it is all worth it. It is a life time experience and beneficial in a future career.
