Company events, consultancy and events are the core business areas of TOPevent but the company also handles business leader seminars, concerts, conferences, product launches and fairs.
So far the company has had two Service, Hospitality & Tourism Management students on internships each with a specialisation in service management / sport management.
During their internships, the students solved tasks concerning several events, e.g. they took part in managing activities related to events and acted as co-ordinators of parts of the events. For instance, one of the interns was responsible of managing all transportation and hotel bookings for guests at a large client event with 500 guests.
“We are talking a very large assignment of picking up guests from all over the country and co-ordinating more than 20 buses and 4 hotels. – And the intern completed the assignment to everyone’s satisfaction.”
This means that the interns took part in most of the phases that concern the organisation of events: the planning phase, carrying out the event and the evaluation afterwards.
Ole Hust intends also to let future interns be part of the first phase, where the financial aspect is considered. This means that the key words are: planning, logistics, management, co-ordination and creativity.
The ability to think through all aspects of the event and to be able to take part physically in the practical arrangements are pivotal: for instance, interns have been in charge of beverages for participants, planning table arrangements, co-ordinating staff and acted as assignment instructors on team building courses.
Based on his experience, Ole Hust definitely recommends other companies to hire an intern and he believes that the service management / sport management specialisation is the specialisation that best matches a company like TOPevent.
Finally, he believes that the Service, Hospitality & Tourism Management programme is the programme that best meets the needs of the event industry.
