Erasmus programme gave me the possibility of experiencing not only culture of native students but many international from all over the world. People from the university were very friendly and willing to help anytime.
The University is located in a small English town called Hatfield, just 20 minutes from London by train. This gives the inhabitants nice and calm environment and when needed the rush of a city, London is a perfect place to spend free time in.
The university offers a great study environment including access to 24 hours learning resources centres (libraries), where students can find not only amount of compulsory and additional reading resources, but access to computers, comfortable studying place and refreshment abilities.
Furthermore, one of the facilities of the university is sports village offering range of sport clubs from swimming to tennis to climbing. Students also benefit from school bus and travelling for free within the campus and the university. Overall, the attractive facilities the university provides add value to core teaching service.
From academic point of view, I got to see other teaching techniques and completely different educational methods. Comparing to University College of Northern Denmark, I only studied 4 subjects (modules), where each consisted of lectures and tutorials (seminars).
This method allowed me to get to know more people, as I had every class with different students. The assessment of modules was based on coursework, usually essay or group report, counting for 30% of the overall mark and the in class exam counting for the rest 70% of the total mark.
This way, the students are examined from their knowledge of the theories covered during the semester, and also from practical applying through essay or report.
I enjoyed my stay at the university, although it seemed very short and I defenetely recommend Erasmus study period abroad as it is a good opportunity for academic growth, travelling and experiencing the living and culture of the foreign country. Morever, my english skills considerably improved after the stay in England.
