I am Kaire Luuk from Estonia and I study Sport Management BA at UCN in Aalborg.
I am specializing more in event management and therefore I have chosen for my internship a company from Baltimore, USA, which organizes events: Dream Machine Arts. It is a small event company managed by Dai Andrews.
Dai Andrews is a sword swallower who gives and organizes his own performances. He also works with performers from circus, other event companies and cruise ships.
During my stay in above mentioned internship I expected to link my academic study and theory to real practice and perform specific tasks like working out a special corporate event.
I also expected to get a better understanding of the company’s marketing strategy and to come up with good ideas to improve it – for example finding new events companies and performers from Europe, who would be interested to work with Dream Machine Arts.
I enjoyed my internship very much. My main tasks were to find new performing places for the above mentioned company. The target countries were in Europe.
I had to find out where the most important big artistic festivals are held and contact their coordinators in order to start a partnership. I also had to translate the flyers and main advertising information into Russian, Danish and Estonian.
In the meantime we were attending different festivals in U.S.A. and I helped the crew with organizational work such as setting up the stage.
I had an opportunity to put together a small event in Baltimore MD in the small theatre building. Dai Andrews performed together with other magicians, acrobats and entertainers.
I got an idea of how the company runs its marketing strategy and helped them to come out with some other ideas.
I am really satisfied with my experience and I think that I learned a lot about show business companies and how they run things, especially in U.S.A.
I got to see good and very entertaining shows and learned how to organize them. I learned things about budgeting, ticketing and event logistics.
I also got to know so many great artists and entertainers and spent a very great summer surrounded by performing artists.
