At UCN, we’re quite aware how crucial it is for our International students to find a job in Aalborg.
Therefore, UCN offers a food hygiene course in cooperation with AMU Nordjylland to our new international students in order to help them in their job search and prepare them for the job market.
Most hotels and restaurants in Aalborg, and Denmark in general, as well as cleaning companies like e.g. ISS require that job candidates have a food hygiene certificate when hiring employees.
The food hygiene course runs over 3 successive days during daytime ending with an exam on the last day.
If you pass the exam, you’ll receive a food hygiene certificate approved by the Danish Ministry of Children and Education giving you a better starting point when applying for job openings within the hotel, restaurant and cleaning businesses.
The food hygiene course covers the following areas:

As UCN acknowledges that students face fierce competition on the job market, we cover course expenses to a large extent and only ask students to pay a minimum fee of DKK 180,- (the normal fee for the course is approx. DKK 680,- if you join an online hygiene course at AMU Nordjylland).
The hygiene course is ONLY for UCN students.
The first hygiene course at UCN was held in June 2011 and up until now, 40 international students have passed the exam and received the food hygiene certificate.
If you’re a new international student studying at UCN, you can sign up for the next food hygiene course by contacting Dorit Kjærulff Torp, the International Department, at dkt@ucn.dk

One of our international students, Dragos Bogdan Todoran from Romania explains how the course helped him in his job search:
“All the students that apply for a job at restaurants and hotels or at ISS get the answer that they need to have a hygiene certificate. When I applied for my current job at First Hotels in Aalborg, I only got the job on the understanding that I passed the hygiene course which I, at that point of time, was going to take in two weeks’ time”. |
