Aalborg – Full of Life

The capital of Northern Jutland

With more than 160,000 inhabitants Aalborg is the fourth largest city of Denmark and the regional capital of Northern Jutland. Situated at the narrowest part of the picturesque Limfjord in the midst of wood-covered hills, moors and shallow marshes nature is ever present. Aalborg lies at the centre of North Jutland, a region blessed by nature with many hours of sunshine. If you wish to make excursions from the city, it is only half an hour’s drive to the broad, white beaches of the North Sea or to lovely landscapes such as the Forest of Rold and the Jutlandic Ridge.

The cultural Aalborg

Aalborg is generally known as an exciting city with a wide variety of activities. In addition to a vast number of cultural events, Aalborg is renowned for its many restaurants, cafés and bars – more per inhabitant than any other town in the country. You will find many of them in Jomfru Ane Gade, Aalborg’s amusement street with Denmark’s longest continuous stretch of restaurants, pubs, clubs, cafés and bars. Saturday is usually “the big night out”, but especially Thursdays, when drinks are available at a reduced price, seem to be popular with students.

Practical information

Transport

Buses

In Aalborg you will find buses that will take you to almost anywhere in Northern Jutland and the rest of Denmark. There is a timetable at each bus stop and you can expect buses to arrive and leave on time.

Nearly all city buses depart from the bus terminal at John F. Kennedy's square in the centre of town.

A timetable is issued twice a year – a summer timetable (“Sommerkøreplan”) and a winter timetable (“Vinterkøreplan”). The summer timetable contains information about service reductions during school summer holidays.

If you use buses regularly, please note that you can buy a monthly bus pass. You can buy the bus pass at the NT Offices located at the central bus station. You can also buy a ticket that covers ten bus rides at a reduced price.
