The capital of Vendsyssel

Hjørring is the capital of Vendsyssel, the largest municipality in the region with more than 35,000 citizens. Even though Hjørring is more than 750 years old it has a modern infrastructure with a motorway. You will also find attractive residential areas in the town, and in the surrounding smaller villages.

The cultural Hjørring

Hjørring is the largest commercial town in Vendsyssel with a wide range of products on offer in 175 designer and speciality shops, 14 supermarkets, the METROPOL shopping centre and Bauhaus. Hjørring has converted a part of the town to a pedestrian area. This gives the centre atmosphere, good experiences and makes the town connected.

If you take a stroll through the town, you come across more than 160 remarkable sculptures by Danish and Nordic artists. If you are interested in history, a visit to Vendsyssel Historical Museum or one of the splendid churches will be an interesting experience.

Hjørring is a local base for interesting excursions to e.g. the Eagle Sanctuary in Tversted, Fårup Sommerland at Blokhus, the North Sea Oceanarium in Hirtshals, one of Denmark's best beaches at Løkken or the permanent art exhibition at The Art Building in Vraa.

If you wish to travel to another major city in Denmark, you should consider going by train. The railroad company is called DSB, and you will find the service at the main train station in the centre of Hjørring - next to the bus terminal.

In Hjørring you will find buses that will take you almost anywhere in Vendsyssel and Northern Jutland. There is a timetable at each bus stop and you can expect buses to arrive and leave on time.
